About Castme

← Back to game

CastMe is a daily movie-guessing game where you identify a film based only on its cast. It’s like Wordle, but instead of letters, you get actors — starting with the least recognizable cast member and working your way up to the stars. CastMe also has a TV Shows mode, played the same way, for guessing television series from their cast, and CastMe Connections, a third daily mode where you group 16 actors into 4 sets of 4 based on a movie or show they shared.

What makes CastMe different

Most movie trivia games rely on posters, quotes, or obvious clues. CastMe flips that: you’re forced to think like a real cinephile. You might recognize the lead immediately, but you might also win by spotting a character actor you’ve seen in a dozen films. That “wait… I know them” moment is the whole point.

How the daily puzzle works

How to play (Movies & TV Shows)

  1. Look at the revealed cast member.
  2. Type a movie title you believe matches.
  3. If you don’t know, you can skip to reveal the next cast member.
  4. Keep guessing until you solve it or run out of attempts.

CastMe Connections

Connections is a third daily mode: 16 actors appear on a grid, and your job is to sort them into 4 groups of 4 based on a movie or TV show they all appeared in together. Each puzzle is exclusively movies or exclusively TV shows — never mixed — and the two alternate day to day, with a small badge above the board showing which one you're playing. Groups range from easier (more recognizable cast) to harder (more obscure), and you can make up to 4 mistakes before the puzzle ends. Like Movies and TV Shows, today's Connections puzzle is always free to play.

Stats and streaks

CastMe tracks your gameplay stats so you can see how you’re improving over time — win rate, guess distribution, and streaks. For most players, these stats are stored locally in your browser (using localStorage), which means they’re tied to your device and browser profile. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, those stats may reset.

CastMe also awards milestone badges — First Win, Perfect Game, On Fire, Streak Legend, and others — as you hit gameplay milestones. Badges are free for everyone and are calculated from your own local stats.

CastMe Premium

Today's puzzle is always free — for Movies, TV Shows, and Connections alike — including the past 2 days of each archive. CastMe Premium is an optional paid subscription that unlocks:

Premium is billed monthly or annually and can be managed or canceled anytime from the app. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for billing and data details.

Daily reminders

If you don't want to forget a day, CastMe can remind you when a new puzzle drops — either by email or, on supported devices, a push notification. This is completely optional, separate from CastMe Premium, and you can unsubscribe at any time from a link in every reminder email. See our Privacy Policy for what's collected and how it's used.

Fair play

CastMe is meant to be fun. Some people like to look things up — that’s their choice — but the game is designed to reward recognition and memory. If you play it straight, the difficulty curve makes sense: early cast members are intentionally harder, later cast members are intentionally easier.

Why CastMe exists

CastMe was created to explore a different way of engaging with movies. Instead of relying on posters, taglines, or plot summaries, the game focuses on something that movie fans often recognize instinctively: faces and names that feel familiar even when you can’t immediately place them.

The idea came from the experience of watching a film and thinking, “I know that actor — what else have they been in?” CastMe turns that moment into a puzzle. It rewards long-term movie memory, attention to detail, and the kind of pattern recognition that develops naturally when you watch a lot of films.

How difficulty is designed

Each daily puzzle is designed with a deliberate difficulty curve. The first cast member is usually someone who appears frequently in films but is rarely the main draw. As more guesses are used, the revealed cast members become more recognizable, eventually leading to well-known supporting actors or leads.

This structure keeps the game fair. New players can still solve puzzles by the end, while experienced players are rewarded for identifying films earlier. The goal is not to be obscure for its own sake, but to create a satisfying progression from uncertainty to clarity.

How CastMe compares to other daily games

Like other daily puzzle games, CastMe offers one shared challenge per day. Everyone plays the same puzzle, which makes results comparable and sharable. Unlike word-based puzzles, however, CastMe does not require language-specific knowledge, spelling precision, or trivia memorization.

Instead, the game leans on visual memory and cultural familiarity. If you’ve seen a movie, even casually, you may recognize its cast long before you remember its title. This makes CastMe accessible to a wide range of players, from casual movie watchers to dedicated cinephiles.

Looking ahead

CastMe is an evolving project. Future updates may include additional statistics, difficulty tuning, accessibility improvements, and other features that improve the overall experience while keeping the core game simple and spoiler-free.

The long-term goal is to keep CastMe lightweight, fair, and fun — a daily habit that takes only a few minutes but rewards attention and curiosity.

The thinking behind cast-based puzzles

Movies are remembered in many ways: through scenes, quotes, music, or plot twists. CastMe focuses on a different dimension — the people who bring those stories to life. Actors often appear across decades, genres, and roles, creating a mental web of associations that movie fans build over time without realizing it.

By using cast information as the only clue, CastMe encourages players to rely on recognition rather than recall. You do not need to remember exact titles or years. Instead, the game rewards intuition: noticing when two actors frequently appear in similar films, or when a supporting performer places a movie within a specific era or genre.

This approach also avoids spoilers. Because no plot details or imagery are shown, players can engage with films they have not seen without learning story outcomes. The challenge is purely about connection, not content.

Who CastMe is for

CastMe is designed for anyone who enjoys movies, whether casually or obsessively. Some players solve puzzles in one or two guesses by recognizing a single name. Others enjoy the slow reveal, piecing together clues over several attempts.

There is no required expertise level. The game does not assume deep film theory knowledge or encyclopedic recall. If you have ever recognized an actor and tried to remember where you have seen them before, CastMe is built for that moment.

Movie & TV data & attribution

CastMe uses third-party metadata to display cast information across Movies, TV Shows, and Connections puzzles. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.

If you’re curious about where the data comes from or you notice an error in a cast list, that’s usually a metadata issue upstream — but if you report it, we’ll do our best to patch the puzzle selection or improve the experience.

Design principles

CastMe is intentionally minimal by design. The interface avoids unnecessary visual elements so that attention stays on the puzzle itself. By removing distractions such as timers, leaderboards, or aggressive prompts, the game encourages thoughtful guessing rather than rushed decisions.

Each interaction is designed to be reversible and low-pressure. You can skip without penalty, take breaks mid-puzzle, or return later without losing progress. This makes CastMe suitable for short sessions while still rewarding deeper engagement over time.

Accessibility and approachability

CastMe aims to be accessible across devices and experience levels. The game is playable on both desktop and mobile browsers without requiring downloads or accounts. Because puzzles rely on recognition rather than specialized knowledge, players from different backgrounds can enjoy the game without prior preparation.

As the project evolves, accessibility considerations such as readability, contrast, and interaction clarity remain a priority.
